Ooh we spent a lovely afternoon in St. Ives over the bank holiday weekend! It’s such a cute and quaint seaside bay with cobbled streets and old fashioned tea rooms, but also had a kooky side with shops bursting full of independent design and handmade. We stumbled across a huge beer and booze shop too, but I didn’t really want to have to carry a bag-full of bottles around with me so we only looked and didn’t sample! We squeezed plenty of stuff into a couple of hours, though. Here’s some suggestions for things to do in St Ives:
// Frolic on the beach and have a paddle in the sea! There’s a line of colourful beach huts tucked into the corner too! Definitely one of the most important things to do in St Ives!
// Enjoy an ice cream on the sea front, but watch out for seagulls – one of our friends got attacked by a gang of the blighters and they stole her ice cream :O
// We didn’t make it to The Rum & Crab Shack this time, but I’ve heard it’s good! I mean, what more do you need in a place? Next time!
// The walk out to the lighthouse at the end of Smeaton’s Pier was blustery, but beautiful! It’s just sea as far as the eye can see and a pretty little lighthouse.
// There are so many cute boats, if we had time I would have loved to sit on the pier and watched the world go by for a few hours. You can even rent a retro striped deckchair to really soak it all in.
// We wandered back up through the town to do a spot of window shopping. I eyed up some mint and some Baileys’ fudge in a shop window but, although delicious, the service was pretty poor and the lady was quite rude. I actually recommend you try The Fudge Box a bit further up instead which was much quieter and much friendlier!
// If it’s a busy weekend like bank holiday, you might be better hopping on a train through to St. Ives. It’s a lovely little coastal route and then you don’t need to worry about battling for a space in the tiny car park!
// Set aside a little treat money and go on a shopping spree – I could have spent a fortune!
I bought this beautiful scarf from The Painted Bird, which was full of kooky accessories like thick knitted socks and locally inspired jewellery. Look at those adorable little pom-poms and it goes perfectly with my Kikki K planner. A girl must always match her scarf to her planner! Haha. Shopping is one of my favourite things to do in St Ives – The shops are all so cute, especially Poppy Treffry which is full of illustrated accessories.
Ah St. Ives, you’re alright!
