Shake It Milkshake Bar in Headingley, Leeds

Milkshakes Headingley Leeds

Last week we were sat out in my yard in the scorching heat wondering what to do with the afternoon, so it was the perfect opportunity to wander up to Headingley and try out Shake It Milkshake Bar. The decor is adorable candy-coloured, American diner style and the menu has almost too much choice. You could stare at all the options for hours, which some of us almost did, but if you look over the back of the counter you can see all the sweets and chocolates piled up giving you a bit more of a visual aid to salivate over!

I chose a Mint Oreo Milkshake with a topping of Mint Poppets… where else can you put together such an amazing concoction?! I’m a total mint fiend. The milkshakes are made with ice cream and presented in cute pink candy stripe cups with a scoop straw. They were delicious and pretty reasonably priced too, as milkshakes go these days. The large size was just £3 and toppings were an additional 30p. If you’re on a health kick you don’t have to miss out on the fun because they do smoothies too, with fresh fruit and frozen yoghurt.

Ever since I finished the last mouthful I’ve been daydreaming about which flavour combination I’ll try next time at Shake It Milkshake Bar… maybe something a little more crazy like Black Jacks or Parma Violets. Old school, to match the fun fifties decor and I’d definitely like to sit on the diner style couch for a good giggle on a sugar high!

Ark Warehouse Sale, Leeds

Home & Love Wall Hangings were a housewarming gift a few years ago.

Ark was one of my very first favourite shops in Leeds, way back before it was online and in other cities. I believe my first purchase was a purple two tone pant suit that I wore to a disco on a class trip to France. Wow.

Ark has rapidly grown over the years and still keeps it’s highly affordable, yet fashionable stance on the high street. Most pieces on offer are very purse friendly and you can get pretty dresses and skirts for around £20. But if that still doesn’t quite suit your budget, Ark launched the ‘Ark Warehouse Sale’ around a year ago set up over the course of a weekend absolutely packing out their warehouse in Leeds with up to 90% off clothing.

The warehouse sale can be hit and miss. If you’re a size 8 then it’s like a gold mine with racks and racks of barely untouched clothes that people haven’t even rifled through, however if you’re a size 14 like myself it’s a little more of an art trying to pick out the beautiful pieces from what’s left. However I have been to their previous three sales and have never returned empty handed.

On my most recent trip to the sale I picked up these gorgeous dresses that retail for around £75 and I paid just £20 for all three. The dresses are great quality, made of gorgeous fabrics and none of them have any damage. They may be past season, but florals and lace never go out of fashion. I also got myself a ‘man-cardi’ in burgundy from the menswear section which is super comfortable and slouchy. Great for those hangover or travelling days!

If you have a male friend, the mens offering is even better than the ladies in my opinion! They have thin hoodies, chunky knitwear, smart jumpers, smart shirts and lumberjack shirts and so many t-shirts I can’t even explain! They also have the odd pair of jeans and shoes for both men and women, but you have to arrive early to get your hands on those.

The event starts at 7am, but I’ve mostly arrived mid-afternoon and there’s still plenty of stock available. I believe they replenish the items during the day so theres constantly new items being introduced. The poster informs us that our own bags aren’t allowed in the warehouse and they give you a free bag to carry your stuff home in, however I have found that a small handbag (just big enough for your cash, mobile and keys) is OK! Oh and also, don’t be afraid to try on stuff in the aisles… most people get up to a bit of stripping off ;)

Get yourself down to their Unit near Elland Road tomorrow and Saturday, it’s definitely worth a look around for the money you could save :) Don’t forget it’s cash only! For more information, visit the event on Facebook.

Have you been to an Ark Warehouse Sale? What did you manage to pick up?
