Best Beaches in Cornwall: Holywell Bay

Beaches near Newquay

This August I popped down (also known as spending 8 hours in a car) to see my bestie, Tobes, in Cornwall. It was a little rainy during our stay, but the sunshine did come out to show off to Cornwall’s guests for the weekend so we got some beach time and Tobes took us over to Holywell Bay. How awesome is the sea? It just makes me so happy.

Quiet Beaches In Cornwall

Holywell Bay, Cornwall

Previously I’ve visited a couple of beaches in Cornwall, Newquay and Perranporth; both are incredibly touristy and packed with holiday makers. I instantly fell for Holywell Bay as, despite it being peak season, the beach was mostly empty which is much more my thing. I think it’s one of the best beaches in Cornwall, so far anyway! I’ll keep you updated.

Holywell is a coastal village in North Cornwall so there were a couple of pubs right off the beach too. We also passed a Fun Park, which I’m sad to say we didn’t get chance to delve into. Next time!

Supposedly the bay is a favourite for surfers and swimmers, but it’s vast stretch of beach made for a lovely walk along, paddling in the deep turquoise sea and we settled for a bit of a picnic (popcorn and crisps!) in a little cove by the rocks at the far end of the beach and watched all the doggies running in and out of the sea. I love that Cornwall’s beaches are dog friendly.

On the way back we stopped for ice cream at a little shack near the entrance to the beach. They were only serving your traditional ice cream van options which was a little disappointing, but ice cream is ice cream. Otherwise there wasn’t much else going on at the beach, unlike Perranporth which is littered with hair braiders and artists, but I quite liked the serene atmosphere – just you and the sea… oh and my besties, what better company do you need than that?

Loves x xx
