I installed these huge bookcases in my studio just before Christmas and they’ve been amazing; they literally take up the entire of two walls in the room, which was rather tiny to begin with, but I’ve been wondering where they’ve been all my life. Since the crazy Christmas rush has subsided I’ve been slowly taking shelf by shelf and making it pretty as well as organised, then Hobbycraft stepped in as crafty white knights and sent me these pretty storage boxes to try out.
The Curver storage box is ideal for keeping my fabrics safe and the colours go great with my cute cake stand and these sweets I got in a goody bag that I can’t eat because they have faces on (don’t ask!) – At least the packaging is fancy enough for displaying! The real winner, though, is this Click Box Storage Stack by Prym which is ideal for categorising my laster cut pieces for my jewellery brand. There’s tonnes of space in there for such a small box and the little handle makes it really easy to carry my supplies around – you could even use one of the trays for your tools so you can make stock on the go. I might try this for craft fairs so I can be productive while I exhibit.
As I was decanting my supplies from the old boxes to these new pretty storage boxes, I was thinking about how my business has grown over the years. It’s not an easy thing to notice when you’re right in the middle of it all, but looking back over the years of how I stored my supplies it was heartwarming to see how I’d got to this stage from the teeny tiny boxes I used to use when I first took up jewellery making as a hobby back in 2011. Now I have a fully functioning studio that I use only for my business and I keep huge amounts of stock at a time, making sure I can cover the amazing peaks in sales I get at certain parts of the year or to be able to fill a wholesale order as soon as it comes in. I’m so proud of what my little business has achieved!
Why not pick up some craft supplies yourself and give it a go? Running your own business is so incredible and I have lots of business tips for you here on my blog :)
