// Ask yourself, “Why”? Why are you doing this? Why are you working so hard? What do you want to achieve. Who are you doing it for? Whether it’s to be healthier, to learn something new, to make someone happy or you’re building yourself a career.. have a purpose.
// Collect inspirational quotes. Pinterest is great for this; you can see my board here. When you’re feeling like giving up, read them back and remember that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you first found them. That, “I can do this!” feeling ;)
// Take a break. I know you want to do it and you want to do it all now, but none of us can function if we’re burned out. Go for a walk or curl up with a cup of tea and read a book. Even just 10 minutes.. it’s better to be excited to get back to work than sick of the sight of your desk/laptop/guitar.
// Create mini rewards. I know, for me, this one can be difficult as being self employed means massive spending cuts, but simple things can work just as much as paid-for treats; watch an episode of your favourite TV show over lunch if you tackle that problem first thing. Put off listening to a favourite song until you’ve checked three things off your To-Do list. Plan a nice relaxing bath at the end of a hard day.
// Remember the compliments. If someone has gone out of their way to say how much they love your work, spent hard earned cash on one of your products or passed comment on how great you look recently.. keep these little pick-me-ups at the back of your mind and pull them out when you feel like everything you touch turns to dust.
// Make a playlist. Music, music, music; It makes my world go round. Compile a playlist of music that inspires you, whether it has a great beat for jogging in the park or lyrics that make you want to grab life by the horns.
// Find something to focus on. When everything is going pear-shaped, take a minute to step back and breathe. It could be a memory of being at the Top of the Rock looking out over New York City (mine!) or a photograph of your dream house. Something that gets back to the basics of why you’re doing what you’re doing. Have something to daydream about, something to aim for.
