Of Confidence & Outfits & Things…

So… so far I am really failing shamefully at doing an outfit post.
I lack confidence – big style! I really take great encouragement from blogs like One Sheepish Girl who did a ‘Blogging For Confidence’ series, which you can read here, but sometimes no matter how much you can manage to talk yourself up, it’s hard actually putting yourself so far out of your comfort zone.

Blogging For Confidence by One Sheepish Girl

I love clothing and style and I really love just getting dressed. I love accidentally creating a great outfit while trying on my hundreds of clothes. Posting my daily outfits seems like such a great feature for my blog because it would fit so well with who I am… and I also think it would be a really good way of learning to feel better about, and eventually loving, myself.

I’ve gone as far as asking my boyfriend to take photos for me, I’ve put on an outfit I love and I’ve had my camera right there in my bag while we were outside on the quiet streets around my house, but I always find an excuse.

SO. The other morning I tried taking some photos of myself in the privacy of my own home. I was home alone and I just made myself do it. I love my outfit, which I will explain more about later, but the pictures were dreadful because there are no great backgrounds in my house and the lighting is terrible and I’ve totally cheated but cutting off my face in editing… but at least I’ve made a start! This is a huge step for me, so please, bear with me. I’ll get better, I promise <3

A lot of people compliment me on my glasses. At the front they feature quite a chunky, rectangle frame. I do love the way they look, but the quality is dreadful! They have become so loose that if I accidentally knock them or even just bend my head… they fall off. Which can be so embarrassing, especially when you’re talking to a really good looking and well presented male model at a photo shoot and you drop something, bend down and your glasses fall off! D’OH.

Ugh. I cringe so hard thinking about sitting there and taking a photo of myself with the self timer on my camera. But I really love this outfit. I got dressed completely differently this day, I did my hair first with a wooden headband that you can’t see in the picture and then I put on the tights and socks to match in brown. Then I pulled a dress out of my wardrobe that I thought would look cute with the socks. I wouldn’t normally match a black dress with brown tights, but I think it totally works here. I also hadn’t worn this belt for about 4 years, but I’ve fallen in love with it again!

So there you have it. My first outfit post that I hope to some day look back on and laugh at how silly I felt.
Maybe now the elusive first post is done, I won’t feel so silly taking good photos outside in the natural light. Hopefully.

x xx

what a great idea for a blog, and I love your style!  The glasses look fab, what a shame they fall off so much.  Could you get them tightened up maybe?  Anyway, looking forward to seeing more outfits!

I love this idea.  I can totally relate to cutting your face out of the picture as that is what I do myself.  I also love the long socks too. :)

Looking forward to reading more. :)

Well done with your first shoot, here’s to many more. I get my specs from Glasses Direct. No better quality than my local shop but so much cheaper!

I lso have issues with my glasses, I have to get dad to tighten them every couple of months with his teeny screwdrivers. :D You have a funky style. I likes!

Hi, I lust found your blog at CraftBritannia. I love this outfit! It is exactly the sort of thing I wish I could throw together and when I try it just doesn’t work like this! Well done for posting this. I’ve often thought about writing outfit posts but have the same problem of not liking to photograph myself. (Not to mention clearly not having such cute clothes as you!) Maybe I’ll have a go one of these days.

I love your outfit and look forward to more posts! :)

Great post Sophie! Love your style, but share your embarrassment about photographing ourselves – although that’s probably because I’m overweight with absolutely no dress sense! And I’m SO envious that you can wear a belt you hadn’t worn for 4 years – none of mine would go over my thigh now!

    I love this post! :)

I had a go at doing an outfit post a couple of weeks ago, but after seeing the pic I’d
taken on my timer, I quickly deleted it! hehe :) and I LOVE your look! Are you
a Dorothy Perkins fiend as well? hehe. I love that place! And the tights
definitely go. The background and light of your pic look perfect as well :)
Can’t wait to see your next one! x

Thanks :D I think it’s more than their losing their thread on the screws and the… screw holes? Lol. A good excuse for new ones!

Thanks! I have been much more adventurous with my next outfit, but let’s see what makes it through editing! Haha.

Thanks :) I keep looking through Glasses Direct, ordering a trial, selecting glasses and then they go out of stock, lol! I need to be more organised!

     Thank youu :)

If I’ve learned anything with putting together outfits, it’s that confidence in yourself makes an outfit truly great. Failing that, you just have to fake confidence ;) Haha! Reading style blogs is great encouragement too! Definitely give it a try and give me the link so I can check it out!

     Thanks :)

Thanks! Hehe, it does help that the belt doesn’t have holes, you just hook the metal thingy into the weave of the leather. Trade secrets!! ;)

I AM a Dorothy Perkins fiend! I just can’t quit them ;) Hehe. There’s a dress I SO want there at the mo, but it’s a little more than I usually spend in there :(
Aww, try again! I tried on loads of different days to take a picture I was happy with and in the end I just made myself post one. And the comments from all you guys have made me feel awesome! <3
